Welcome to The Angus Steakhouse

The Angus Steakhouse sits on U.S. Hwy 70 SW in Hickory and gives me the feel of a classic local stop with a steady crowd and a clear focus on comfort food. The room feels casual, cosy, and rooted in the kind of dining that locals return to for steak, burgers, and a meal that lands with no fuss.

I notice the menu leans into familiar plates that fit lunch, dinner, or a solo meal at the bar. Filets, ribeye, hamburger steak, cheeseburger, onion rings, and slaw keep the appeal broad, while the range of salads and kids' meals gives families room to settle in. The place also fits groups, tourists, and regulars who like a simple steakhouse with a local feel.

Service stands out in many guest notes. Staff often help with takeout changes, early arrivals, and late walks-in near closing. That kind of care gives the place a home-town rhythm. Live music adds a layer of energy, and the bar brings beer, wine, tea, coffee, and spirits into the mix.

Price sits in the mid range, which makes it a practical pick for a meal out without a big bill. Free parking, wheelchair access, and dine-in, takeaway, and delivery options make the visit easy. For diners in Hickory who want steakhouse comfort with a local pulse, this spot earns a look.

About

I find The Angus Steakhouse at 3795 U.S. Hwy 70 SW, in a spot that feels easy to reach by car. Free parking helps with quick lunch stops and dinner plans, and the building has the basics covered with accessible entrance, seating, toilet access, and a wheelchair-friendly car park.

The setting feels casual and cosy, with a historic touch and a bit of trend in the mix. It works for families, groups, solo diners, and travelers who want a local meal without a long wait. The bar on site gives the room a social edge, and the live music brings a nice pulse on busy nights. Little touch, big charm.

Timing matters here. Lunch stays calmer, while dinner draws a larger crowd, with Saturday night at full tilt. Tuesday through Thursday lunches feel like the best window for a quieter visit, and that can suit anyone who wants to sit, talk, and enjoy the meal at an easy pace.

The crowd feels mixed in a good way. I see families with kids, friends sharing plates, and locals who know the menu well. The whole setup points to a restaurant that aims for comfort, access, and a clear place in Hickory’s dining map.

What People Say

Most Liked

Guests praise the friendly service first. Many note staff who handle special requests, late arrivals, and table changes with care. The food also gets strong marks, with steak cooked to the right doneness, tender filet, solid hamburger steak, and a cheeseburger that earns repeat visits. Onion rings and baked red potatoes also get love.

The atmosphere comes up often. People like the calm feel on weeknights, the family-style welcome, and the live music. Some reviews mention the bar, the pool table, and the sense that the place feels like home. That mix gives the restaurant a warm local edge.

Most Disliked

The main downside is crowding at dinner, with Saturday evening marked as the busiest stretch. That can lead to a wait for seating or service. Diners who want a quiet meal may want to aim for lunch or a weekday visit.

Some guests may find the menu focused more on classic comfort than range, since the list centers on steaks, burgers, salads, and sides. That works for many diners, yet it may feel narrow for people looking for broad kitchen variety. A few visitors also may find the space lively on music nights, which can shape the mood for conversation.

They did an amazing job with my unusual request, I placed an order for take out, and got there a little bit early. I did take out because me and my girlfriend were looking for a place to eat and everything was overcrowded, this place had an amazing environment, super calm and not too many people here on a Tuesday night like every where else. We ended up waiting at the bar and decided we loved the environment and wanted to eat there, and the staff made it happen, the meal was already paid for online and it was being prepared but they sat us at a table and treated us amazing. Our server even gave us a free cheesecake. I will most definitely go back there. 100% the food was amazing, the service was beyond expectations, the place looked sweet, and was a great environment.

This place was excellent. The food, the staff, the atmosphere all were great! Thay had live music too! It's a great local place that makes you feel like your family! We went on a Thursday, it gets very busy on Saturday. Highly recommend!

The filets that we ordered were cooked perfectly (medium well) and very tender. The baked red potatoes are spectacular. We couldn't ask for a better meal - no sauces needed because everything was prepared the way it should be! Highly recommend this restaurant to everyone if they want a great steak and friendly service!

An amazing experience at Angus Steakhouse! From the moment we walked in, everything was perfect — the food, the atmosphere, and especially the service. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the sides were delicious. But what truly made our visit unforgettable was Adele. She was incredibly professional, warm, and attentive throughout the evening. Adele went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. We felt genuinely cared for. Highly recommend Angus Steakhouse — and if you’re lucky, you’ll be served by Adele!

Worth stopping by. Good food. Steaks and burgers are as good or better than anything around in several counties.
